A NEWS STORY (NARRATIVE)

In this unit you have to write a news story. Choose one of the newspaper headlines and guess or invent the story. 

• TAX CHEWING GUM TO PAY FOR CLEAN-UP 

• 4-YEAR-OLDS ASKED TO MARK THEIR TEACHERS 

• POLICE STEP UP SEARCH FOR BODY 

• EAR FOUND ON PAVEMENT 

• TELEVISION KILLS, SAYS GERMAN PROFESSOR 

• WANT A DOG? TAKE A PERSONALITY TEST 

• EARTHQUAKE KILLS 500 

In order to do so it is important that you structure the text well as explained afterwards and that you use many sequencing words.


STRUCTURE 


Headline: write a catchy headline


1st Paragraph

It tells the place, the moment and the characters of the story. It answers the questions when, where and who.

Use sentences like:

When?        Last summer/ week/ year/ Monday, Two/ Ten / Hundreds of years ago, In 1978....

Where?       In South Carolina, in Barcelona, in a haunted house....

Who?          Name of character / A group of friends / Her parents...

2nd Paragraph

The second paragraph describes the main events of the story telling what happened and how the characters reacted. You have to use sequencing words.


3rd Paragraph

Concludes the story and reveals the consequences of what you explained.
